Do You Have Food Allergies?

Food allergies are one of the most common allergies that affect many people. The cause of food allergy is an immunologic response of the body’s immune system in response to food protein. Food allergies occur when a person has food intolerance to certain type of food and cause certain undesirable side effects or even experiencing serious repercussions. For the moment, there isn’t any cure for food allergies yet. The best form of “treatment” is to avoid eating the food or diets which a person are allergic to.

Food Allergies – What is the causes?

Essentially, a person could be allergic to any types of food. However, there are certain categories of food which are especially common to be the causes of food allergic. For example, food likes eggs, milk, soy, wheat, peanut, shrimp, seafood and chocolate. For many cases, people are diagnosed to be food allergic since they are young child when a new food is first introduced and get noticed. For a few group of people, they may have start notice that they have certain type of food allergies only in their adulthood when they first expose to that particular food.

Why food allergic happens?

The is a popular theory stating that the studies has shown that food allergy cases are less in third world countries compare to developed country such as United States. The possible explanation for this phenomenon is due to the lack of exposure to germs and dirt in the early state of personal growth and partly is because the over use of antibiotics and antibiotic cleansers.

Food allergies happen in the same as other allergies, which is when our body’s immune system presume that something that we just ate is harmful to the body and try to protect us from disaster by attacking the foreign food proteins that enter our body. As a result of this self protect mechanism, certain IgE antibodies are produced. One of these chemicals is the histamine. Histamine is the chemical that our body produces whenever we are having any allergic reaction, and can cause the eyes and nose to water and sometimes itch, dry and parched feeling in the throat.

If you need food allergy treatment…

Currently there is no cure for food allergies even the allergy shots method. The reason being that it is hard to do a through research on the field of food allergies as many sufferers will have immediate allergic response to even small amounts of food or food extracts were introduced to them and may even cause the situation worse.

The mainstay of food allergy treatment is a complete avoidance of contact with the offending food. If a total avoidance is not possible, there are allergy medication that can be used to alleviate certain allergic symptoms and reactions. Allergy medication should not be consider as the solution to food allergy as it can only provide relief of the allergic conditions and is not able to cure the underlying cause of food allergy.

Food allergy is a thing that the person will most likely to live with for the rest of their life. For a person who are suffering from serious food allergic symptoms, it is important to work together with a doctor who will monitor their condition and give proper prescription whenever needed to keep proper control of the conditions.

There are a few genetic engineering programs under research to create a vaccine in genetic level to provide a cure to allergies and totally eradicate food allergies in the coming years.
