Skin Allergies in Different Forms

There are different types of skin allergies. Skin Allergies often cause rashes, inflammation or swelling to the skin, in many cases the itching occurs and scratching causes broken skin and other complications because of the infection. Even though itchiness and rashes are the common symptoms of skin allergies, not all are related to allergies.

Skin allergies occur the same way as other different kinds of allergies which are triggered by the contact of the substances with the skin and the skin reacts to the allergens by swelling or developing rashes that can be red, scaly and painful.

Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis or also known as eczema is one of the common diseases among the skin allergies that often affect not only young kids but also adults as well. Eczema is the skin rash that arises when an individual scratches the itchy part of the skin. The rash is the reflection of the skin allergy being scratched. For people who suffer from atopic dermatitis, it is important to notice that there is no eczema if there is no scratching at all.

Skin allergies always come hand in hand with other forms of allergies. For an example, atopic dermatitis patience may be suffering from asthma or allergic rhinitis as well. The common place where the rash appears when atopic dermatitis is scratched is in the face for infants and younger kids, but for adults it is usually around the inner elbows and the back of the knees and could involve other creases in the skin even.

Contact Dermatitis

Contact dermatitis is the other form of skin allergies which the allergic reaction is a result of the contact or exposure to allergens or irritants. It results in large, itchy and burning rashes. Unlike any other causes of allergies, contact dermatitis can takes up to few days to fad away.

The source of allergens can be the substances commonly found in the make up, dyes and medication. The common location of the skin allergies which is the direct consequences of contact dermatitis is in the wrists, waistband, neck and certain specific parts of the body.

Hives and Swelling

Hives (Urticaria) and swelling (Agioedema) are two of the common forms of skin allergies that occur when expose to allergen. Hives are the bumps like symptom that can be of any size and mildly itchy. Compare to atopic dermatitis, despite the itchiness that the hives can bring, there are less likely to cause skin break due to scratching and itching. Hives and swelling are the two allergy symptoms often occur together or one after another. However, there are exceptions where only one instance of skin allergies occurs on certain individual.

Swelling can be harmful when it occurs internally as it can cause potential blocking of airways and obstruct breathing that causes suffocation. People who are suffering from skin allergies that cause swelling may have some burning or stinging sensation in the swollen parts of the skin. Swelling can also occur near the eyes, lips, mouth and even extremities.

As a conclusion, skin allergies cause certain degree of discomfort and may be disheartening as well for many people as the symptoms are not be appealing to look. However, there are many different types of skin allergies medication as well as traditional herbal natural remedies that can be applied to the skin or intake to alleviate the allergies symptoms.
